Summer sun and your hair!

We felt that we should throw a party to celebrate the re-opening of our beautiful salon!

With sunshine and longer days, holidays are on our minds.

One of the most asked questions in the salon is, how to look after our hair whilst on holiday.

As over 70% of our clients have some sort of colour on their hair, it’s even more important to look after it and take into account sun, sea and chlorine. Not to mention different types of weather…

Our hair becomes porous with colour or lightener and therefore is more susceptible to any hazards!

So what advice should we take when we need to look after our hair just a little bit more than usual?

Have your colour treatment done well in advance of your holiday. If you have different tones put in just before you go away, the chances are that the colour will fade really quickly with a combination of too much sun and chlorine.

Both these elements are harsh on already porous hair.

Consider waiting until after the holiday before having a colour, your hair will benefit from having a rest and will take the fresh colour better.

Have conditioning treatments before, during and after you return.

This will help to smooth the cuticle and help with porosity.

Wear a hat!

This will give you good protection but even that is sometimes not enough for complete protection.

Humidity is always difficult to handle and our hair really suffers when it is particularly humid!

Sometimes it’s best to wash and leave our air in very humid conditions, as blow drying or styling can make it worse.

No matter what we do, there isn’t a one size fits all cure for holiday hair but your stylist should be able to give you the best advice for your type of hair.

We have some products that will help with some of the problems mentioned above and one of the best products, which will give you some protection from humidity, chlorine and UV rays is Milkshake Bi-phase leave in conditioner.

It is also important to use a colour retaining shampoo (all our Milkshake shampoos help with colour retention).
