Training day recently…

For those who follow us at 77 The Hill, you will know that we love our training days, and this particular one was much anticipated!

Andrew Smith, Global Ambassador for Milkshake.

Winner of Southern British Hairdressing Awards, National Hair & Beauty Hair stylist of the year, Men’s Hairdresser of the Year and National Hairdressers Federation photographic image of the year.

Andrew owns a busy salon in Gosport, Hampshire, and also travels the globe, training and mentoring other hair stylists.

Working backstage at various fashion weeks, Andrew has gained a lot of experience working with fashion houses and catwalk shows.

He has worked with super Brands, like LK Bennett and behind the scenes at the Cannes Film Festival.

Andrew was commissioned to head the team at Milan Fashion Week, amongst other things.

Attending education sessions in Holland, Italy, Poland and Spain, not to mention all the work he does in the Uk!

With this wealth of experience, we were honoured to host him in at 77 The Hill!

A great day of learning was had.

A masterclass in cutting techniques

Our team had some theory and then step-by-step cutting on blocks.

Learning is crucial for so many reasons. No matter how long a person has been in our industry, we can all still learn from another person’s skill or way of doing something.

Andrew was incredibly engaging and generous with his knowledge. Everybody enjoyed their time with him immensely.

It’s extremely important to keep up with trends, but equally, to go back to basics and find other ways of achieving a look or current fashion trend.

There could be twenty haircuts all the same, but achieved in twenty different ways.

Andrew was able to unscramble some pre-conceived ideas about cutting and styling and put them in a new way, which gives us stylists new perspectives and a fresh way of seeing something.

The team learnt a new way with the classic French bob and the ever more popular shag/wolf/butterfly cut.
