Volume!

One of the most frequent questions we are asked about is hair volume and body!

How to create volume and body where it is lacking and what products to use.

It’s important to remember that every head of hair is different in texture, thickness, length and abundance.

Some hair will have its own volume and be easy to style. If the hair is thick and curly, it will hold its shape more easily and may not need much in the way of products, however if the hair is fine and limp, it may need all the help it can get!

Let’s start with shampoo…

Shampoo is an important first step in creating style and volume for someone.

A volume shampoo works in a couple of ways.

The first is being able to remove residue and build up from the hair which can weigh it down and therefore make the hair heavy and limp.

The second is by adding volume to the root during the cleansing process. Volume shampoos usually contain wheat protein or soybean, coconut, and almond oil. This adds volume without making hair limp or weighing it down.

After shampooing, a good volumising conditioner should be used. These work in the same way as the shampoo.

Aloe Vera is often the active ingredient, which creates volume over the whole length of the hair. This makes the hair look and feel thicker.

Next, styling

Whilst the hair is still wet or damp, it’s essential to choose the right products to get the maximum lift when styling.

There is no shortage of products for giving volume!

There are sprays, mousses, gels, creams and powders to name but a few.

Depending on what hair type you have, your stylist will be able to advise the best one for you.

Mousse will add body, hold and shape to the hair and volume spray will do the same but is usually lighter than mousse and a different texture.

Gel can have a glue like texture. Thick gel will add hold and a creamy gel will add moisture but still add volume.

After blow drying, hairspray or powder should help to hold the style in place for as long as possible.
