Trending
When we talk about current trends in the hairdressing world, there is always a gap between certain fads and trends in different areas.
Location can make a lot of difference…
What is trendy in the USA will not necessarily be up to the minute or popular here.
There are regional differences, too.
We must acknowledge past and present icons from the hair world.
In the past, London has always been seen as the centre of the hairdressing world, with some of the most famous stylists running salons all over the capital.
Vidal Sassoon had started his salon empire in Bond Street in 1954.
This started a flurry of high-profile salon openings in London.
Trevor Sorbie, having worked for Vidal Sassoon for a number of years, opened his first salon in Edmonton, which is local to Enfield! However, he eventually opened a series of salons in London on Stamford Street, followed by one in Covent Garden, and then he branched out to Brighton.
Joshua Galvin, a giant name in hairdressing, set so many trends, particularly in hair colour and through education. His brother Daniel, also a giant in the hairdressing world, still has salons in London to this day.
Nicky Clark, another great London stylist, only recently closed his salon in Mayfair due to the pandemic amidst financial difficulties.
There are many more, such as Tony and Guy, who are all innovators in the hair industry, and we have a lot to thank them for!
So how do trends start?
It takes creative energy and working outside of your comfort zone to create something new and watch it catch on!
Back in the day, there was only word of mouth and a little advertising to enhance someone’s name or salon.
Today, it is much easier with many social media platforms and a celebrity culture, it only takes one new colour trend or hair style to catch on and be in high demand.
This has somewhat closed the gap between regional differences because every area now has the same opportunities.
A customer doesn’t need to go into central London to experience a great service.
This has to be good for business and for every customer.
