Colour problem?

Colour correction in hairdressing, takes many forms.

The need for this service can be for all sorts of reasons.

Sometimes by using a box dye, the application can overlap the root. This, over time, will cause banding, which can be very difficult to correct.

If the colour overlaps the root onto the mid-lengths, it creates a dark band. This particular problem is best corrected by a professional stylist.

Another form of colour correction, is when the desired shade or tone is too flat or has too much red/orange tone.

The colour wheel can be referred to, applying the opposite tone, which will neutralise any unwanted colour.

If your hair is brunette and the colour is too brassy or orangey, a shade with a blue undertone can be applied.

If your hair is lighter or blonde, a shade with a purple undertone should help to eliminate any unwanted yellow.

Why we ask questions

When a customer comes into the salon for a consultation, a good stylist will ask a lot of questions about what has gone on the hair before.

It’s really important to understand how the client’s hair has come to need a correction.

A simple colour correction can take a 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the extent of damage.

However, a severe case can take six or seven hours – or even longer if two or three appointments are needed over time.

It’s very important to maintain hair condition whilst the process is going on.

When working out the complexities of colour correction, it is very important not to over promise the end goal.

Far better to work out the route to take and slowly but surely achieve the correct colour.

If you have had a negative experience with resulting in an undesirable hair colour, it’s always best to get advice from the professionals. Most stylists love a correction as it involves a lot of the techniques that stylists love.

When a colour correction goes well, there is an intense feeling of satisfaction for any hairdresser!
