Here, we can explore some common misconceptions about our hair…
We felt that we should throw a party to celebrate the re-opening of our beautiful salon!
Having your hair trimmed regularly makes your hair grow faster!
The answer to this is no. Having regular trims will keep on top of split ends and make the hair stronger, but hair grows from the follicle under the scalp.
Will my grey hair grow back thicker if I pluck it from my scalp?
This is also no! The hair is pulled from the follicle and will grow back exactly the same as it was.
Dandruff is caused by a dry scalp.
Not true! Dandruff is actually produced by an oily scalp and an overproduction of yeast.
Hair falls out after childbirth.
Partly true. Yes, some women suffer hair loss post-partum, however this is usually due to a drop in hormones, particularly oestrogen, after the birth. High levels of oestrogen make the hair grow quicker and more abundantly during pregnancy, so it’s a natural process of shedding once the levels return to normal.
Hair grows better in the summer.
True! Sunshine helps your hair to grow because vitamin D is the key ingredient. It is well documented that vitamin D can enhance hair growth, and there’s certainly no shortage this summer!
Rinsing in cold water makes your hair shine!
Well, this is partly true, because cold water can help to smooth down the cuticle, which in turn helps the hair to reflect a shiny appearance.
Is grey hair caused by stress?
Absolutely not, grey hair is determined by genetics pure and simple!
Will straightening your hair cause damage?
The simple answer is yes. If the temperature is too hot, it will dry out the hair, making it split and possibly weakening the hair shaft, causing breakage.
Can you put ketchup in your hair?
Yes! If your hair is affected by chlorine in swimming pools, sometimes it can have a slight green hue. Putting ketchup in your hair can neutralise the colour.
Going outside with wet hair will make you ill!
This one is a strong no! Viruses and germs make you ill, so you are completely safe to go outside with wet hair.
