In recent years, there has been a flurry of barber shops opening on our high streets.

There have always been barber shops, and many were basic and traditional. A man could go to the barbers and have a short back and sides. Perhaps he would have a shave too, but that was where the services ended.

Fast forward to today and barber shops are all about grooming and pampering as well as the odd hair cut!

A unique skill

Barbering is a unique skill set. When we train as hairdressers, we do not automatically become barbers. It takes further training to learn all the skills necessary to be able to shave, use clippers and do scissors over comb hair- cuts.

The scissor over comb method, is particularly hard to perfect and can take many months or even years to be confident.

All our stylists have been scissor over comb trained and all of the team can use clippers and know how to do a fade.

However, one of our senior stylists specialises in all things barbering.

Our lovely Richard, started with us way back in 2018!

He has been on various courses and built up a huge and varied clientele.

Richard has many talents as a stylist but he is a skilled and experienced barber.

Fades, beard trims, hair tattoos and carving are the most asked for services and Richard is the master of them all.

Patience is needed to get the perfect fade and Richard has plenty of it!

Richard loves all types of hairdressing and loves to cut hair and finish with a bouncy blow dry but one of his favourite services is men’s grooming.

Scissor over comb cuts are sometimes preferred by women as well as men and there isn’t any difference in the amount of time it takes to carry one out.

Anyone is welcome to come in and have a chat with Richard if you are tempted by any of his particular skills. An appointment isn’t always necessary for a consultation but its best to book ahead for anything else as he gets very busy!
