We couldn’t talk about our team without mentioning Mel!

Our team mate, our inspiration, our boss.

It all started in June 1990 during a recession.

77 The Hill was buzzing with new clients and a real excitement for something new in hairdressing.

The foundations on which 77 The Hill were built are still true today, good customer service, highly skilled stylists, lovely surroundings and the best products.

Mel had a strong belief that a good hair cut would see customers returning again and again.

He was proved right and we still have many of Mel’s original clients still attending the salon today.

Of course, hairdressing has moved on and diversified in many ways but a good cut is still fundamental to success.

Inspiration

Mel always wanted to be a hairdresser and his inspiration came initially from Vidal Sassoon.

He started working at Taylors of Bond Street and after that in Enfield at A cut Above which became Dusty’s a few years later. He stayed there until he was ready to go solo and buy his own salon.

After finding an old launderette on Windmill Hill, he quickly turned it into a beautiful salon where 77 The Hill was born.

Mel is still working a few hours a week and still has training sessions with all of our team members.

He still loves hairdressing and the salon environment is his comfort zone, where he feels at home still cutting hair for clients old and new.

Today, inspiration comes from many sources. Mainly on various social media platforms and education sessions with our various trading partners.

We have a strong team of 6 stylists, receptionists and admin staff. It is a very busy salon and it’s surprising how much work goes o in the background to keep us where we are.
