Grow grey gracefully!
During the lockdown, hard to believe it was five years ago… lots of people had no choice but to grow their hair and let the grey flourish!
Many clients weren’t even sure what colour their natural hair was.
A few of our clients embraced the greys and grew out their colour, never to return to dyeing.
Most customers didn’t like not being able to colour their hair – unless it was a box dye – never recommended by salons as it can be incompatible with professional hair dye.
This culminated in our salon being extremely busy when we re-opened after being closed for so long!
Growing out hair dyes
There are ways of growing out hair dye in a less painful way than having no choice!
Depending on how dark the dyed hair is, some soft lowlights can be added to blend the grey with the dark.
As a general rule of thumb, the lighter the hair dye, the easier it is to blend in while it’s growing out.
A good regular trim will help to make the process quicker and keep it in good condition while it’s growing.
Another choice is to just do nothing and be patient! The dyed part of the hair will fade if it’s not being refreshed but it can be a long process with hair growing at the rate of approximately half an inch per month.
Six inches per year will seem slow if you’re in a hurry…
There are various ways of de-colouring the dye but success depends on a few things and de-colouring can sometimes have unexpected results.
Our customers tell us that the first couple of inches of re-growth are easy to cope with – as the determination is there but as the hair grows out more, the line becomes more obvious and this is the time that you might need intervention!
