A unique situation…

Who knew?

While we were eating our Christmas dinners and enjoying the company of our families that within a short period of time, life would change so dramatically!

I’m not going to talk about the Corona virus specifically, however, it has affected people in different ways.

From our point of view, we have had to stop doing what we love and from our clients point of view, it’s been a given that they can see their stylist regularly to cover up grey hair, or have a fresh trim and blow dry.

We hope to give some practical tips for looking after your hair at home during this time of isolation.

So, are you wondering how you will cover up grey roots?

There are some fantastic products on the market but be careful!

Please don’t turn to the dreaded box dye. It’s tempting to try and match your colour and plonk it on what you think are your roots… however, it’s hard to match your colour exactly and its very hard to just stick to your root and you will most probably overlap the colour and ruin the colour that your stylists have lovingly looked after and perfected over years.

More importantly than that, any damage caused from incompatibility of colour is hard to correct. Often, home products contain metallic salts which are not compatible with professional products and can cause severe reactions.

So, before you reach for the box colour, please think twice and then think twice again!!!

Firstly, consider what you are looking for. We don’t know how long the situation could go on for and it would be tempting to buy the strongest product on the market to cover grey hair. But there are many good temporary products that are easy to use and very mild.

The ideas below are all temporary colour and will wash out but should build up after persistent use.

  • Colour wow root cover up, which comes in lots of shades and a brush to make it easy to apply to the root without overlapping.
  • L’Oreal Magic Retouch
  • Make-up Revolution Root Cover up
  • Superdrug roots concealer

All simple to apply and will not damage your hair.

Simply choose the colour that matches your hair the most. You will not get an exact match but something very similar. Better to be a shade darker if you’re in any doubt, as that’s how it looks in its natural state.

Coloured shampoo is useful too, to add a glow or copper hue for example.

All of these available at Boots or Superdrug. None of them need a skin test either. This will make sure you look after your roots whilst we can’t.

As soon as we’re able, we will re-open and look forward to covering the greys again!

Just remember, stay away from box colour! It will all end in tears…

Stay well everyone, see you soon 🙂
