Online shopping, the demand for everything in an instant and people working from home have all contributed to its downfall!
Barber shops, nail bars, estate agents, charity shops and cafes are now the main shops on every high street.
In amongst all of that is the humble hair salon. Larger towns may have several salons and smaller towns usually one or two.
Even a small village where there is no high street may have a hair salon. Apart from getting a lovely new hair style, it’s a place where relationships are built and friendships are made.
Very sadly, salons are struggling to keep afloat. With new tax laws to contend with, training facilities in decline and the energy crisis having a huge impact on salon costs.
Rent and rates are exorbitant on the high street!
Many stylists are now choosing to work as mobile hairdressers or adapting a room in their home to recreate a small salon.
Overheads are much less, and time constraints are non-existent. It is a very sad situation indeed.
77 The Hill has been on Windmill Hill for 36 years, which is truly amazing.
We are so grateful to be not only still operating as a salon but to be busy and thriving!
Between us, we have many years of experience, and our lovely boss, Mel, inspires us and invests in us by offering training and mentoring.
We are unique in the sense that most of us have worked together for years – almost like family – ready to help each other and always strive to be the best.
Being complacent is not good for growth or success. We need to do everything in our power to stay as part of the local community.
Our clientele has helped us to stay where we are, and there are many who have been with us since day one.
We want to be here for as long as possible as we believe that salons are still at the heart of the high street.
